The Catecism of the Catholic Church defines the sacraments as "efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us."

Through the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, every sacrament brings with it a particular grace to assist us on our journey of Faith.  "The seven sacraments touch all the stages and all the important moments of the Christian life: they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian's life of Faith." (CCC #1210)  By understanding the role of each sacrament within our own lives, we obtaibn a better appreciation of how much God wishes to reval Himself to us and share His love with us, no matter how young or how old we are.
