  • Did you know???

That if all of our registered families gave an extra $1 each week, that we would have an additional $128,000 for the parish.

  • Golden Wedding Celebration

A Mass honoring all couples in the diocese celebrating 50 years of marriage in the year 2008 will be celebrated by Bishop Finn at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The liturgy will be followed with a reception at Donnelly Hall for the couple and their immediate family. This celebration will include all couples who will be celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008. If you were married in 1958, please call Chris at 373-2600, before April 14, so that you can be acknowledged, even if you are unable to attend this event.

  • Lector and Eucharistic Minister Training

The schedule for the 2008 Diocesan Training Courses for new Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers is out. Classes in the metropolitan area will be held on the following dates:

These courses run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and lunch and snacks are provided.

If you are interested in becoming a Lector or Eucharistic Minister, you must first complete the diocesan course and then complete a short follow up course here at St. Mark’s. • Rosary Rally
    Sunday May 25, 2008 3:00p.m. Kauffman Stadium

This rally will be an afternoon of Eucharistic Adoration and a global living rosary. The Knights of Columbus have graciously ordered a bus to transport anyone who is interested to the Rosary Rally at Kauffman Stadium free of charge. Anyone interested in a space on the bus would need to call Chris in the parish office, 373-2600, ext. 224, as soon as possible. Space is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis. This Rally is sponsored by the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. For more information go to www.eucharisticfamilyrosary.com

  • The sisters of St.Francis:

Are you looking for something to do? The Sisters of St. Francis can use your help. If you can give one or two or even three hours to help the Sisters with different things around the convent they would be so happy. And you would be too because volunteering is a wonderful thing! So call Hilda Beck in the parish office at 373-2600 to sign up, there is plenty to do out there.

  • Volunteers are needed:

Do you have too much time on your hands and you don’t know how to best spend that time. I have several volunteer opportunities that you can consider:

    1. St. Vincent de Paul is looking for people young and old to work with the poor of our community.

    2. Mission’s is looking for a person who would be willing to sell trash bags on the 3rd weekend of every month. If you can spare some time during two masses to sell the bags, please contact Hilda in the parish office. This fundraiser also helps build a home in Anapra in the summer.

  • Habitat for Humanity Church Coalition Build

Once again St. Mark’s, in partnership with other area churches, will put faith into action by sponsoring and building another Habitat home for an Independence family.

On the weekend of May 17-18 a second collection at all the Masses, as well as a blessing and signing of boards, will kick this project off. We need to raise $25,000 to fund our portion of the house and as always, we need everyone’s prayerful commitment to this mission. You can make checks payable to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity (THHfH) and bring them to church the weekend of May 17-18.

If you would like more information about the Habitat for Humanity Ministry or would like to volunteer, please call Kris McMenamy at 228-8953.

Monthly Calendar
The monthly calendar is published as part of the Mark It! Newsletter. It includes ongoing events that occur regularly and also lists special or ad hoc events. Please also check the weekly calendar in the bulletin as events can change. Or feel free to call the parish office at 816-373-2600 if you have questions about any events.

Mark It! Newsletter
Mark It! (as in "mark it on your calendar") is a monthly newsletter mailed to every registered family. Mark It! offers a more detailed look at ministry programs and events, featuring articles and photographs, plus a calendar of events for the upcoming month. Some issues carry a theme - for instance, February is Family Life Month and December generally focuses on a Christmas message. Most issues provide a wide variety of information ranging from a grief series, building update, missions, marriage preparation, preschool and much more!
