Small Wonder Preschool - General Information
We ask that you walk your child to class each morning.
You are required to complete a list of names stating who has your
permission to pick up your child. Please keep this list updated
throughout the year. Tell the teacher on days when someone other than
the usual person will be picking up your child. Please sign your
child in and out of the classroom each day.
Please do not send your child to school for 24 hours after he
has had a fever over 100, rash, vomiting, diarrhea or severe
cough.
Should your child become injured at Small Wonder, your child will be
taken into the director's office and assisted accordingly. Your child may
need a Band-Aid, ice applied, observation and/or a call to the parent
or for emergency assistance. If we are unable to reach you by phone,
we will call from the emergency information sheet that is on file for
your child. Please keep the information updated. Our teachers are
trained in CPR. All injuries and/or accidents will be documented and
signed by the teacher and director. You will always be told of the
incident and offered a copy.
If Independence and/or Blue Springs Schools are closed because of
snow, our school will also be cancelled.
Children should be dressed in comfortable, washable clothing suitable
for play and that he/she can manage in the bathroom. Please mark all
clothing with the child's name. Children spend time outdoors each day
and should have appropriate outdoor wear; warm outer clothing in the
winter and light clothing plus sunscreen in hot weather. Because our
playground is pea gravel we recommend that you do not send your child
in sandals. Also, girls should wear shorts under their dresses.
In preschool, we work to eliminate any potential problems before they
happen. Our staff expresses respect and affection for the children
and model positive social interaction and expression of feelings.
Should there be a disciplinary problem, we use several techniques
that help children to internalize rules and become self-directed in
their behavior. These include giving choices, problems solving,
natural and logical consequences, ignoring, redirecting, time out and
"cooling off" either in the classroom or in the director's office. We
will work together with parents keeping the lines of communication
open.
We have several parties during the year. Some are in the classrooms,
just for the children. At Christmas and at the end of the year
Graduation, the families are invited to a program put on by the
children and the staff.
Birthdays are a very special day for every child! You may bring a
simple treat (no cupcakes or cake please). Talk to the teacher
one-week in advance. We also celebrate "½ birthdays" for those
who have summer birthdays.
A list of children addresses and phone numbers will be available for
use in arranging car pools.
Once in the fall, and once again in the spring, we will have a
photographer come to our school to take pictures of the children.
There will be several picture packages that you may choose from if
you are interested. If you wish to purchase the pictures, you should
have them before Christmas.
The teachers also frequently take pictures of the children at work
and play to display. You are asked to sign the permission slip about
these photos.
Get acquainted conferences will be held the first week of school for
each parent and child. Progress Conferences will be scheduled.
Additional conferences can be scheduled at any time as needed. Always
feel free to talk to the teacher.
There is a scheduled Parent-Teacher conference day in March. We will
use an assessment form to guide both parents and teachers in
observing the child's progress.

the time of enrollment. Tuition is due the first day of each month,
