Youth Ministry

St. Mark's Youth Ministry program ministers to teens and their families. Specifically, it includes teens in grades 6-12. In this ministry, teens are empowered to have a voice around the issues that affect them, learn about their faith, form community through social activities, provide service to those in need, plan and participate in prayer and worship events, learn life skills, grow into leaders and grow in their personal relationship with Jesus.

Sacrament Preparation

Sacrament Preparation requires one year of active participation in Faith Formation sessions prior to the year of preparation. The forms shown here are for youth who have already participated for at least one year.

 Faith Sharing

Middle School and High School youth meet the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month to discuss their faith. We gather together but separate into grade specific groups to discuss topics.

Our topics are based on the Liturgical calendar which means we focus on the readings and Gospel each time we meet. We also cover current events and specific church teachings during the year.

 Sacrament Preparation

Teens may also prepare for sacraments in our Youth Ministry program including Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Teens preparing for things sacraments meet during regularly scheduled Faith Formation sessions. Teens preparing for Reconciliation and Eucharist participate in additional educational sessions.

Youth interested in preparing for any Sacrament must be active in Youth Ministry or our Parish School of Religion for at least one year prior to preparing. Confirmation normally takes place during the sophomore year at St. Mark’s.

 Trips

St. Mark’s teens participate in two semiannual conferences – the Kansas City Youth Conference (KCYC) and the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC). Middle School and High School students can also participate in summer mission trips.

 Service Projects

We participate in a wide variety of service projects including but not limited to St. James Soup Kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, Spofford House, Sisters of St. Francis and Harvesters. Teens also participate in ministries at St. Mark’s like the choir, ushering and helping with PSR.

 Social Activities

We gather for a number of social activities including an annual Lock-In, bowling, comedy clubs, Worlds of Fun, Royals games, laser tag and many other activities.

 Youth Sponsored Parish Activities

Youth Ministry is also active at St. Mark’s by sponsoring activities throughout the year. Some of those activities include Shadow Stations of the Cross, a golf tournament, a business Expo, and a Rummage Sale.
